East Football Team Hopes for Improvement Next Season
Have you ever wondered how a team can step up after not exceeding expectations? The boy’s football team here at Proviso East had their ups and downs this season. We interviewed Head Football Coach Aaron Peppers. In addition to coaching football, he is Proviso East High School Security Lead, a Maywood Village Trustee, and is a graduate of the University of Louisville.
The football team had a disappointing 0-9 record this season but Peppers said the team “had some talents offensively and defensively. They learned as a young team but they didn’t execute together.”
One of the standout players Peppers highlighted is junior Keyondre Benson as he was an exceptional player. Benson was a running back and wide receiver. He was named the team MVP and an all-conference player. Peppers said that over the course of the season Benson made his way to the top with dynamic skills.
Another player Peppers mentioned is senior Joshua Rowe. “He was an all-conference WR (wide receiver) and played big parts in his role.”
As for next season, Peppers wants at least five wins and to make the playoffs as they have some talent. He mentions that they need to learn the playbook offensively and defensively.
This year’s Team Captains were Zaire Holman, Sherman McClenden, Brighton Curry, Jaiden Gary, and Antroine Malone.
