One reason that the Proviso East Football team got along much better this year is the team bonding that they worked on.
For example, the players and coaching staff went out to eat on Thursdays after walk-through practices and then again on Sundays after reviewing films.
One reason they went out every Thursday was to talk about the game and how they are going play as a team so they can have each other’s backs in the game.
The meals were also fun for the players. Martell Davids, a senior and cornerback on the team, said that they go on meals with the coaches to have fun because it not all about football if you don’t have your team’s back.
Davids said that the teammates learned that they were nothing on their own but something stronger together. He says that’s how they beat Proviso West. They didn’t play for themselves, they played for their team and coaches.
They also went out every weekend to get to know each other better. The coaching staff also went with them. It appears to have worked because the football team did not argue; instead they played as a team with no fighting. They went out to practice and work hard every day and get ready for Friday night.
Jovan Richardson, a senior and all around player, said, “It’s not all about football. If you don’t have a team then you can’t win as a team. So we’ve got to work hard every game.”
